We designed 47 two-storey terrace housing units across the section. The development has been designed with a terrace housing typology, separated into four main blocks. The blocks have been strategically placed to enhance on-site amenities and to allow for a logical internal layout that will not impact neighbouring properties while also accommodating suitable access and parking. This layout is efficient and responds appropriately to the site’s opportunities and constraints.
The successful architectural design is domestic in appearance and the form of each unit will be readily identifiable through the combination of façade composition, roof pitch, and enclosure. We used stepping to work with the site’s slope while breaking up the building volume and adding visual interest. Front doors will be easily identified and no garages are proposed that could dominate the building façade. All the units have been designed with a dual aspect to maximise cross-ventilation. The north, east and west orientation will allow optimal natural light to the units.
This development will positively contribute to the quality of the street by way of rear-loaded and attractive building frontages.
