The development will replace two social housing units with nine, to increase the residential density of the site and provide comfortable and modern dwellings for more young people requiring housing. This project involves constructing a social housing residential complex at the rear of the site at West Coast Road. By designing a three-storied residential complex that contains nine units, we reinterpreted the compact, three level walk up apartment typology for a small site.
Unlike typical designs for social housing, the circulation spaces in this apartment are all enclosed, which makes this design unique. Compact apartments with minimised circulation spaces allowed this project to be realised. By providing high quality social housing, we have achieved an exemplary architectural outcome.
